About Silent Knight
Silent Knight is a Honeywell-owned fire alarm brand with a strong installed base across the United States and Canada. The platform is NFPA 72 compliant and uses Honeywell’s SLC (Signaling Line Circuit) addressable protocol — closely related to the SLC technology used in Notifier panels (also Honeywell-owned). Key product families:
- IntelliKnight Series — addressable fire alarm panels (5600, 5700, 5808, 5820XL) for medium and large commercial buildings
- 5200 Series — compact conventional panels (5207, 5208) for small commercial sites
- 5808 / 6808 — addressable panels for medium-sized commercial installations
- 6820 Series — larger commercial addressable platform with extensive expansion options
- EVS Range — Emergency Voice System integration for voice evacuation requirements
Silent Knight EVS variants
Many Silent Knight panel models are available in both standard and EVS variants. The EVS variant integrates an Emergency Voice System amplifier for voice evacuation announcements alongside the fire detection function — useful for high-occupancy buildings, multi-floor sites and any installation requiring intelligible voice messaging during a fire event.
Silent Knight in the UK and Ireland
Silent Knight panels are primarily sold in North America, but UK and Irish engineers occasionally encounter them on US-headquartered company sites or imported equipment. The fundamental fire alarm engineering principles — SLC loop addressing, cause-and-effect logic, walk test — translate directly between Silent Knight and other manufacturer platforms.
Fire alarm training
BH Courses do not currently run a dedicated Silent Knight programme, but the underlying SLC platform technology is shared with the Notifier Fire Alarm Training course (also a Honeywell-owned SLC platform). Engineers competent on Notifier will pick up Silent Knight quickly because the loop architecture and cause-and-effect concepts are the same.
For broader fire alarm engineering competence, the BH Courses Fire Alarm Training Course covers nine major panel platforms and provides the theoretical grounding needed for any addressable fire alarm system.
