Gent Vigilon

Free PDF manuals for Gent Vigilon fire alarm panels — the high-end intelligent addressable fire detection platform from Honeywell Gent. Vigilon panels are widely specified across UK and Irish hospitals, transport infrastructure, large commercial sites and multi-building campuses where reliability, speed of detection and networkability are critical.

About the Gent Vigilon platform

The Gent Vigilon is EN 54 certified and uses Gent’s proprietary high-speed S-Quad addressable protocol on the panel loops. Key features:

  • Up to 200 addressable devices per loop
  • Multiple loop configurations from compact to large-system
  • High-speed network bus for inter-panel cause-and-effect across distributed sites
  • Sophisticated cause-and-effect programming with logical groups and time-based logic
  • Optional integration with Gent S-Quad detectors and modules
  • Compact variant (Vigilon Compact) for smaller installations
  • Voice evacuation integration support
  • Networkable across large multi-building sites

Where Gent Vigilon is deployed

Gent Vigilon is the platform of choice for installations where the highest detection performance and reliability matter: NHS hospitals, airports, rail infrastructure, large university campuses, museums and high-value commercial buildings. The S-Quad protocol’s detection speed and addressability are competitive advantages over Apollo/Hochiki-based systems for these applications.

Vigilon Compact

The Compact variant is a cabinet-reduced version of the standard Vigilon platform suited to smaller buildings where the full Vigilon would be over-specified but where Gent compatibility is required (typically for site-wide standardisation across a campus).

Gent fire panel training

The Vigilon platform is sufficiently distinct from Apollo/Hochiki-based panels that engineers experienced on other platforms still need Gent-specific training. BH Courses run a dedicated Gent Fire Alarm Training programme covering both Vigilon and Nano platforms, S-Quad protocol, cause-and-effect programming and commissioning workflows.

For the smaller Gent platform, see the Gent Nano manuals. For multi-brand training, see the Fire Alarm Training Course.

Gent Vigilon Commissioning Manual

The Vigilon Commissioning Manual is the official Honeywell Gent reference for setting up the Gent Vigilon intelligent addressable fire alarm panel. It covers loop addressing, S-Quad protocol configuration, cause-and-effect programming, networking and walk test sign-off.

What the manual covers

  • First power-on, panel discovery, initial menu navigation
  • Gent S-Quad protocol loop addressing
  • Zone configuration and labelling
  • Cause-and-effect programming with logical groups and time delays
  • Networking Vigilon panels for distributed and multi-building sites
  • Voice evacuation integration
  • Walk test procedures and commissioning sign-off
  • Fault diagnostics for loop, network and power faults
  • Battery sizing and standby calculations

Who should use this manual

This manual is for fire alarm commissioning engineers working on new or modified Gent Vigilon installations. The S-Quad protocol differs significantly from Apollo and Hochiki addressable systems, so engineers experienced on other platforms still need Gent-specific competence.

Gent S-Quad protocol

The S-Quad protocol is Gent’s proprietary high-speed addressable bus protocol, optimised for fast response and reliability. It is not interchangeable with Apollo or Hochiki devices — Gent installations use Gent-branded detectors, manual call points and modules.

Gent fire panel training

BH Courses run a dedicated Gent Fire Alarm Training programme covering Vigilon commissioning, S-Quad addressing and cause-and-effect logic. The course also covers the Gent Nano platform.

Gent Vigilon Compact Operating Manual

The Vigilon Compact Operating Manual is the day-to-day operating reference for the cabinet-reduced variant of the Honeywell Gent Vigilon platform. The Compact suits smaller buildings where the standard Vigilon would be over-specified but where Gent compatibility is required — typically sites within larger Gent-standardised campuses.

What the manual covers

  • Compact-specific front-panel layout
  • Responding to a fire alarm: silence, reset, evacuate
  • Responding to a fault: identifying source from the LCD
  • Zone and device disablements
  • Walk test mode for weekly testing
  • Event log review
  • Access levels and key switch security

Who should use this manual

This manual is for building duty holders, facility managers and trained end-users operating Vigilon Compact panels. Engineering and commissioning staff should refer to the standard Vigilon Commissioning Manual.

Vigilon Compact vs standard Vigilon

The Compact uses the same S-Quad addressable platform as the standard Vigilon but in a reduced cabinet for space-constrained installations. From an operator perspective, the front-panel workflow is the same as the larger platform.

BS 5839 weekly testing

Weekly user tests are mandatory under BS 5839-1. For the full duty-holder responsibilities, see the BS 5839 / BAFE SP203-1 compliance track.

Gent Vigilon Installation Manual

The Vigilon Installation Manual is the engineering reference for physically installing the Honeywell Gent Vigilon intelligent addressable fire alarm panel. It covers cabinet mounting, power and battery wiring, loop topology and the Gent S-Quad device wiring conventions.

What the manual covers

  • Cabinet mounting, AC mains wiring, earthing
  • Battery sizing for 24h standby + 30 min alarm
  • S-Quad loop topology and cable specifications
  • Gent addressable device wiring (detectors, MCPs, modules)
  • Loop-powered and conventional sounder circuit wiring
  • Auxiliary I/O and relay module wiring
  • Network bus wiring for multi-panel installations
  • Voice evacuation integration cable routing
  • BS 5839-1 compliance notes

Who should use this manual

This manual is for fire alarm installers doing the physical install of a Vigilon panel. After install, the Vigilon Commissioning Manual covers the programming and configuration phase.

Gent Vigilon Operating Manual

The Vigilon Operating Manual is the day-to-day operating reference for installed Honeywell Gent Vigilon fire alarm panels. It is written for end users, duty holders and facility managers responsible for the panel during normal building operation.

What the manual covers

  • Vigilon front-panel layout: LCD, indicators, controls
  • Responding to a fire alarm: silence, reset, evacuate
  • Responding to a fault condition: identifying source from the LCD
  • Zone and device disablements (isolations)
  • Walk test mode for routine weekly testing under BS 5839-1
  • Reading the event log for incident review
  • Access levels and key switch security
  • Networked Vigilon operations (event acknowledgement across the network)

Who should use this manual

This manual is for building duty holders, facility managers, security teams and trained end-users operating Vigilon panels daily. For commissioning, see the Vigilon Commissioning Manual.
