FireNET

Free PDF manuals for Hochiki FireNET addressable fire alarm panels — the North American product range from Hochiki America Corporation. FireNET panels provide intelligent addressable fire detection for the US and Canadian commercial market, using Hochiki’s proprietary ESP (Enhanced System Protocol) addressable bus. Hochiki America is part of the wider Hochiki Corporation, the Japanese fire detection manufacturer with strong global presence.

About Hochiki

Hochiki Corporation was founded in Tokyo in 1918 and is one of the longest-established fire detection manufacturers globally. The company manufactures detection devices, control panels and accessory products across Japanese, North American and European markets. Hochiki America operates from Buena Park, California and is responsible for the FireNET product line for North America. In the UK and European markets, the parallel Hochiki product line is marketed as L@titude / Latitude.

Key Hochiki FireNET product families

  • FireNET-1 — single-loop intelligent addressable fire alarm panel for small commercial installations
  • FireNET-2 — two-loop intelligent addressable variant for medium commercial installations
  • FireNET LCD — LCD-equipped variant with enhanced operator interface
  • FireNET Plus — expanded variant with enhanced cause-and-effect capability
  • Hochiki ESP detectors — the addressable detector range used across FireNET and Latitude platforms
  • Hochiki ESP modules — input, output, sounder and conventional zone interface modules

Hochiki FireNET platform features

  • UL listed for US and Canadian installations (NFPA 72 compliant)
  • ESP (Enhanced System Protocol) addressable bus
  • Up to 127 addressable devices per loop
  • Sounder circuit (NAC) outputs with supervised supervision
  • Cause-and-effect logic for cross-zone alarm propagation
  • Front-panel and offline (PC tool) programming
  • Auxiliary I/O and relay outputs
  • Optional remote annunciators for distributed indication
  • Voice evacuation integration support

Hochiki ESP protocol

The Hochiki ESP (Enhanced System Protocol) addressable bus is one of the most widely deployed addressable protocols globally. ESP detectors are used not only in Hochiki-branded panels (FireNET, Latitude) but also as third-party detectors on panels from other manufacturers including Kentec Syncro AS (which supports both Apollo and Hochiki ESP devices on the same loop). This cross-platform compatibility makes ESP detector ranges valuable for multi-brand service organisations.

Where Hochiki FireNET is deployed

FireNET is deployed across US and Canadian commercial fire alarm installations:

  • Small-to-medium commercial office buildings
  • Hotels and hospitality
  • Schools and educational facilities
  • Healthcare clinics and small medical facilities
  • Multi-tenant commercial retail
  • Light industrial buildings
  • Religious and community buildings

FireNET vs Latitude (UK Hochiki)

Hochiki sells essentially the same underlying technology under different brand names in different geographic markets. FireNET is the North American product line; L@titude / Latitude is the UK and European product line. The detector range (ESP devices) is largely interchangeable between the two, though panel hardware and certifications differ to meet local listing requirements (UL/NFPA in the US, EN 54 in Europe).

Hochiki training

BH Courses do not currently run a Hochiki-specific training programme as a standalone course. However, the Hochiki ESP protocol is supported on the Kentec Syncro AS platform, which is covered by the BH Courses Kentec training. Engineers competent on Kentec multi-protocol commissioning will have working knowledge of Hochiki ESP detector behaviour. For broader fire alarm engineering competence covering ESP alongside Apollo and other addressable protocols, see the Fire Alarm Training Course.

For UK and Irish compliance, see BS 5839 / BAFE SP203-1 compliance.
